The Doing Business 2015 ranks
Tanzania ahead of Kenya & Uganda
The Doing Business 2015 portrays Tanzania’s Ease
of Doing Business rank (out of 189 economies) as 131 (2014 being 130) while the distance to
frontier (DTF)** measure, overall and by topic shows Tanzania to be 56.38 (2014
was 55.82) .
Starting a Business is shown
as 124th rank (having dropped by 6 positions), Dealing with
Construction Permits to 169th rank, Getting Electricity to 87th
(rank having dropped by 2 positions).
In Registering Property, Getting
Credit and Protecting Minority Investors, Paying Taxes once again Tanzania’s
rank has been shown dropping.
The only area that has been
shown positively is Trading Across Borders – the rank having risen from 137th
from 139th while there has been no change in Enforcing Contracts
rank having stayed at 45th position.
However Comparatively
Tanzania has performed much better as Kenya stands at 136th rank ,
Uganda stands 150th rank & Malawi
stands at 164th rank
Ms. Shainul Bhanji, the
Promoter & CEO of Global Investors Consultation Centre (GICC/EA) observing the report noted that our Tanzania’s
leadership has been making tremendous efforts to boost its FDI. The country’s
President, The Prime Minister’s office, TIC, EPZA, TNBC & various government stakeholders need to
be applauded.
